Our Vision

A community where older adults age with dignity, honour and respect.

Who We Are

The Elder Abuse Prevention Council is a diverse group of volunteers who are committed to reducing and preventing elder abuse.

What We Do

The EAPC promotes awareness by providing information and education to the community.

What is Elder Abuse?

The mistreatment of an elderly person by someone they should be able to trust or rely upon. It can happen to anyone and tends to occur most often to those who are socially isolated and dependent.

What You Can Do

  • Establish rapport and trust with the seniors in your life.
  • Maintain regular connection.
  • Know the signs of elder abuse.
  • Feel free to ask “is everything okay?” Initiate tough conversations.
  • Inform seniors of their rights.
  • Promote secure financial practices. Put safeguards in place.
  • Ask for help.

Get Involved

We are a diverse and intergenerational team that is always looking for volunteers to join our cause. If you would like to help create a community where all older adults are empowered, valued, engaged and respected, here are some ways you can get involved.

Every donation to EAPC helps build a safer Waterloo Region for our older adults. We are a grassroots organization that is entirely run by volunteers – no paid staff or burdensome overhead. All donations directly fund elder abuse awareness and prevention within Waterloo Region and Wellington County.

We are looking for volunteers with a variety of skillsets! Whether you have a background in education, PR, project management, community outreach or similar, please reach out.

Awareness and education are a key part of elder abuse prevention. If you are interested in an Elder Abuse Prevention Workshop for your organization, please contact us!
