Who We Are

About EAPC

We are a diverse group of volunteers who are committed to reducing and preventing elder abuse by providing information and education in Waterloo Region. Our members include older adults and representation from Waterloo Regional Police, the Local Health Integration Network, retirement homes, long-term care homes, homecare agencies, community services and hospitals.

Our Vision + Mission

Our vision is a community where older adults age with dignity, honour and respect.

Through our ongoing initiatives, we are working diligently to create a community where all older adults are empowered, valued, engaged and respected.

All of our initiatives are guided by these four core principles:

  • Older adults are respected members of society who deserve to be treated fairly in all aspects of life and community.
  • Social connections are critically important to empower older people and reduce risk factors associated with elder abuse.
  • Together, we can create inclusive communities that reduce the social and economic cost of elder abuse.
  • Through education and dialogue, we can make significant strides in preventing elder abuse and creating communities that value equality and self-worth.

Our History

Originally founded as the Waterloo Region Council of Elder Abuse (WRCEA), and rebranded as the Elder Abuse Prevention Council (EAPC) in 2018 to reflect a renewed focus on prevention, our volunteer organization has been a driving force in building awareness for elder abuse in our community.

Since our inception, we have celebrated many ground-breaking milestones, including comprehensive resources on Elder Abuse Prevention,  community outreach and education initiatives.
